I have to say something about this, I was listening to Jamie Allman this morning on KFTK 97.1FM Talk and he had me so worked up that I wanted to call in to the show to agree with him and offer my thoughts!

Broadcast Media brings in Miracle Lead! |

No I’m not talking about a lead one of my direct response
advertising clients received from a broadcast advertising campaign.
I am talking about the Missouri Miracle!
Hats off to the Amber Alert System and a couple 15 year old
boys!
The recovery of Ben Ownby and Shawn Hornbeck,
thanks in a large part to the mass Broadcast
Media Coverage of the Amber Alert. It
was on every Radio Station; Traffic, News and Weather. It was on every TV news broadcast, Am, Mid
Day, 5p, 6p, 9p and 10p.

Merry Christmass! |

Not Happy Holidays... Not Merry Qwanza.... Not Christmas with and X where Christ should be.... Just Merry Christmass.... yeah, I'm a Christian/Conservative, proud of it and I wear it on my sleeve. It does not mean I don't have Jewish friends, Muslim friends, even atheist friends, I do, I just think that I and companies like me should be able to market the holiday, faith and discount of there choosing.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! The ultimate competative media battle. |

NOW I've seen it all!!!!
Just the other day I was
walking into the agency when I almost tripped over a shiny new yellow phonebook. My eyes lit up with anxious anticipation. I couldn't wait to
see who wasted they're money on full pages and "double trucks" (what
they call two full pages side by side) I was on my way to the office couch
where I was planning to amuse myself for a moment before tossing it in
the trash when I was floored!
On the cover, as usual was a "Tip On" from mortgage giant; American Equity Mortgage. A tip on is a
square coupon glued to the center of the cover with a glue that reminds
you of the glue class clowns in high school used to make fake buggers,
but I digress.
It was not shocking to see the American Equity
Tip On, since they had owned the coveted position since the late 90's.

I have been and stil am a proponant of the less is more Clear Channel philosephy. Mostly because I am a huge fan of :05, :15 and :30 spots. Probably since our agency started as predominantly a AM News/Talk buying firm and they offered the :30s as a standard for years. Unfortunately, the big media buying firms must not have seen the value.

The Three Ingredients of a Good Media Buyer |
|
|
By anchorstl on

|
|
I was asked the other day to what I felt were the most important attributes of a good media buyer. Like many other professions, a college degree was not on the intitial list. My answer was simple:
1. You must have knowledge.
Now, I realize that knowledge can and does come from college media and marketing classes. However, I attest to the fact that true industry KNOWLEDGE can only come from first hand experience in the trenches. I believe that someone should spend at least 2 to 5 years as a media buying assistant, before they should assume the title of Media buyer.< ...
